Before leaving on a trip with your pup there are a few things you'll want to do to make the trip more enjoyable for all concerned.
1. It is important that your pup's vaccinations are complete and up to date. A vet check-up is a good place to start.
2. We recommend that you have your pup microchipped. It is also a good idea to have an ID tag on your pup, this ensures that if your pup gets away people will have access to your contact information. Be sure to have your most recent contact information on the tag.
3. Research your destination thoroughly for pet friendly accommodations. We use the app Bring Fido. This app gives lodging choices that are pet friendly. Be sure to read the description carefully before booking your reservation. It would not do to make a reservation to bring your Great Dane when the lodging only accepts dogs under 50 pounds.
4. If traveling by air, check the airline policy regarding pet travel and book in advance. Choose a suitable carrier that complies with airline regulations.
DO NOT CLAIM YOUR PUP IS A SERVICE ANIMAL JUST TO KEEP HIM WITH YOU. IT WILL BE OBVIOUS IF YOUR PUP IS NOT PROPERLY TRAINED AND YOU COULD BE PREVENTED FROM BOARDING.
5. Pack food, water, bowls, leash, waste bags, grooming supplies, favorite toys, and any medication your pup may need. Include a comfortable bed or blanket to help your pup feel more at home.
